Secondary Schools. As per KS2, but to a higher level of expertise
I use a range of approaches to teaching including call and response, using mnemonics to aid memorising rhythms, singing, encouraging pupils to improvise and to compose their own rhythms and preparing for performance. I routinely use the percussion repertoire to encourage pupils to explore different musical structures, styles, genres, traditions, musical elements and musical devices.
I have worked regularly with pupils from a variety of backgrounds and academic abilities including those with special needs and pupils in referral units. I have much opportunity to witness the benefits of learning percussion in boosting pupil and social development; improving learning skills; fostering team work; building life skills; improving behaviour; encouraging creativity; providing a foundation for future learning; being inclusive and having fun.
I can also provide tuition for after-school clubs
I undertake annual safeguarding training.
