I have been a professional musician since 1979. I was the drummer for post-punk avant-garde group Biting Tongues and recorded three discs with them before leaving to become the first drummer for Simply Red.
In 1985 I joined Inner Sense percussion who toured internationally, were for many years the British Council house band and undertook a number of artistic collaborations including a production of Carmen with Kneehigh Theatre Company. Inner Sense played an important role in introducing Samba rhythms in Britain through workshops which inspired the development of a number of community Samba groups throughout the UK.
I played for many years with Beatlife Brazilian Percussion group and community orchestra playing at the 2008 and 2009 Lake of Stars festival in Malawi, Liverpool’s Africa Oye festival (2007-10), the opening of the European City of Culture festival 2008 and Oslo’s Mela (2007-2010).
2006-2011 I was the drummer for Storeyville UK, who play original blues-based material and whose live performances have included a residency at the Prague Fringe Festival 2009..
Since 2013 I have been a member of the multi-generational, indie group The Vulnerables, who performed their own material at regular gigs until the start of lockdown.
Since 2016 I have been part of Global Grooves Street Band whose recent performance include Blue Dot Festival 2018-19, Oldham Festival 2018-9, Cleethorpes Carnival Parade 2019.
